Gallivespian

Here’s a couple of newer designs. I’ve recently begun building the abstract shapes together to form definite things like plants and animals..here’s a dragonfly but I’ve also been working on fish and birds. I’m also just getting into Lino printing, so should have some interesting ink prints to share soon!

Break on Through

Here is another piece of pattern art that I created in the last few weeks of May 2013. In all of my pattern pieces, I have a series of shapes and motifs that I enjoy working together, shapes that are based on organic forms such as flowers, trees and leaves, droplets of water, teeth, feathers, spines and shells. I first draw the entire pattern in pencil, then go over the lines in biro. I then erase any remaining pencil lines and emphasise certain lines and shapes in black graphic ink pen. Sometimes, as in this and my previous pattern, I pick out aspects of the pattern in selected colours; this time I have used blue and green. I try not to make the colours too apparent, to create the sense that they might be a trick of the eyes. Break on through
